The growing demand for poultry products with the increasing world's population is compelling more efficient and sustainable practices in broiler farming. The integration of pioneering technologies, including deep learning, machine learning and the Internet of Things (IoT), into broiler farming provides a sustainable solution to a long-standing dilemma. The significance of image visualization, machine learning, and IoT in determining the live body weight of birds and the consequential cost savings for farmers.

  1. The rising global demand for poultry products begs the conundrum: How do we achieve efficient and sustainable broiler farming? Traditionally, poultry firms relied heavily on corn a massive contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, water pollution, and habitat destruction as the principal feed ingredient. These unsustainable practices have placed immense pressure on the environment, further propelling the poultry sector towards innovative solutions.
  2. Incorporation of precision livestock farming holds immense promise in addressing these challenges. Equipped with real-time sensors, automation, and data analysis tools, farmers can curtail feed waste by optimizing their feed systems. Smart poultry management systems such as IoT, machine learning, and deep learning are revolutionizing broiler farming through precise feed management.
  3. As the demand for broiler chickens continues to surge, the adoption of precision livestock farming becomes inevitable. Traditional feed management approaches often contribute to excess feed consumption and wastage, thereby pressurizing our ecosystem. Precision feeding is the game changer here, ensuring efficient feed utilization while minimizing environmental impact.
  4. Advanced technology plays a pivotal role in achieving desired live bird body weights. Deep learning algorithms and computer vision technology help in predicting live bird body weight, facilitating effective feed management. The integration of these technologies offers a lucrative opportunity in precision feed livestock management.
  5. Precision Livestock Farming (PLF) technologies facilitate real-time monitoring of environmental parameters, thereby creating an optimum poultry house environment. Further installation of multi-sensor systems provides an impetus for these monitoring efforts, facilitating the customization of feed rations based on individual bird requirements, health status, and growth stages.
    • Robotics & Sensors is used in various industries and can also be applied in poultry; for an instance Robots can be used to clean floors, gathering eggs where the eggs gently rolled onto a conveyor belt to an egg gathering station. This decrease worker injury, address labor shortages and also reduces cycling time. The sensors can also evaluate environmental factors such as: temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide, ammonia, sound & brightness. Whereas the bots can play an important role in improving feeding regimes, climate control, cleaner water quantity, identifying diseases and deceased birds. A complete feedback system can also be designed between the bots and sensors to move infected / deceased birds.
    • Artificial Intelligence can be used to monitor and control the environment in farms; there’s a saying among farmers that the sounds of flock indicates health, comfort, and overall well-being of the birds. This tech will exactly do the same by listening and analyzing the sounds of the flock, in order to detect the signals of distress thus reducing stress. Also, AI can adjust the conditions of the farms and alert the users if there are any issues based on the collected information through Sensors. Whereas with the Computer Vision can also be used: to grade eggs such as to determine defects like cracking or internal blood spots. This computer vision can also be used for evaluating fertility of the eggs by scanning them during incubation.
    • Blockchain technology can be used to secure digital records and monitor supply chain management, in-order to ensure traceability of the poultry products sold in stores. Adapting Blockchain can resolve food safety and transparency issues right from monitoring the food supply chain, from farmers and producers to processing and retailers /C&F/ distributors.
    • IoT is a technology which connects all the others. For an instance a project was executed by the Freedesign team, to reduce the mortality rate for day-old-chick growing in farm. They offered a unique hardware-IoT setup to incubate these day-old-chicks in order to continuously monitor (by using sensors), control (by using standard IoT platform), and maintain (by using bots) them. This solution brought incredible efficiency into feed management, traceability, tracking of medicine & vaccination which efficiently brought-down the mortality rate.
    • B-Data advantage here, we can collect more information on animals with regarding to the bacteria in their system and how they respond to soya and feed at every stage of their growth. With this supplementary information farmers are now learning how to manage their birds better than before.

Technological implementation refers to the application of modern tools, machinery, or tactics in poultry farms. It's all about leveraging the power of tech advancements to make farm management easier, more efficient and profitable. Implementing technology in the poultry sector also drastically reduces mortality rates and disease prevalence. Modern poultry tech such as automated vaccination systems and health-monitoring devices can detect signs of illness sooner. This early detection allows for swift intervention, reducing the spread of diseases and consequent bird loss. The role of technology in simplifying water regulation cannot be understated. Sophisticated systems now exist to ensure birds access clean, bacteria-free water in the right quantity. With proper water regulation technology, dehydration-related issues are a thing of the past. The integration of cutting-edge technologies is transforming the poultry industry by creating significant cost savings for farmers, ensuring efficient broiler production, and safeguarding the environment. Undoubtedly, the adoption of advanced technologies in broiler farming could result in significant benefits. The blending of image visualization, deep learning, and IoT to anticipate live bird body weight and implement precision feed control offers a unique gain for the poultry industry in Indonesia. By enhancing feed usage and promoting an optimal farm environment, broiler farmers have the potential to achieve major cost savings and improve their production efficiency.
